After doing a workshop with Mark LaFebvre at Village Books, he asked me if I’d be willing to write about my partnership with the folks at Village Books. Here is the resulting post on Kobo Writing Life’s blog. Special thanks to Mark, Christine and Shayna from Kobo; Chuck, Paul, Brendan, Sam, Christina, Lindsey, Alex and the rest at Village Books.

And after reading a cool blog post by Barry Eisler, I decided to update my fairly boring bio for a new, funnier one. Here it is. Let me know if you have suggestions. This will be appearing on my hardbound edition slipcover.

Growing up in the Pacific Northwest, Robert L. Slater wanted to be an astronaut or a rock star. At 42, he gave up those dreams to become a writer of science fiction and fantasy, where he can pretend to be both.

Like some of his characters, he has a propensity for speaking in lines from 80s movies, drinking Mountain Dew and eating pizza. He loves music as a listener, a zealous fan, a guitar player, and a singer/songwriter.

After nearly 20 years as a schoolteacher, and 35 as a teenager, he is beginning to have a hint of insight into young-adulthood. He has been in that hood a long time!

Have you read All Is Silence? If you have and are willing to help me, the greatest thing one can do for an author is to give them a review and/or a rating. It doesn’t have to be positive, in fact, I would appreciate it being honest over positive! 😉 I have created a reviews page, www.desertedlands.com/reviews, so that interested folks don’t have to search for the book on various sites, but can write one review and post in on mulitiple sites within a few clicks.

Thanks for all the support. More news in a few days and I hope to see many of you at the release party at Village Books on Pi day, 3.14.2014.
