Here is the apocryphal tale of how I came to create my list of goals and dreams. In 1986 I read an article about Chuck Yeager, the famous pilot. As a kid he had made a list 74[?] things he wished to accomplish. He completed the list at the age of 74. Unfortunately, in this age of the internet, I can find no record of this. Did Chuck Yeager really set 74 goals? Did he really accomplish them? Can anyone help me? Or did I dream it all?

Another inspiration was the following quote; from which I have taken my life motto: Specialization is for insects. For a time my online moniker on The Heinlein Forum on Prodigy was S.I.F.I. Rob.

“A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.”

— Robert Heinlein, Time Enough for Love

Well, however I got the idea, at 19 I created a list of 50 goals. Over the years I have been gradually adding to it. Some of the items on it have been retired as goals or dreams. Some are impossible if time and physics work in the way we think they do and magic doesn’t exist. Many of them I have worked toward and some of them I have accomplished. I need to go back and figure out what I have accomplished and update it with new items! For now, here they are. Use them as you will. I have borrowed liberally from many sources. Feel free to borrow from me. If it’s something you’re serious about. Make it a S.M.A.R.T. goal and set about it. If it seems unrealistic, make it a D.U.M.B. goal and let it sit out there to inspire you.

I think it’s pretty cool that you were inspired by his list and made your own. I too, have my own bucketlist of things that I one day hope to do myself. I’m really looking forward to getting more of them done, and I’m busy doing some already. Hopefully you can one day achieve all of these too :3 It was interesting to read about them 😀

Yeah, it’s been a few years, but I think it’s time to do some reflecting… Only been thinking about writing goals.
